Do you know what this is?
It's an amazing new (to me!) supply for crafting: recycled sari silk! I had never heard of this before my in-the-know friend Susan pointed it out to me. She used it for the hair and mouth of her hurricane doll, and apparently lots of other crafty people are using it for knitting, crochet, and jewelry making. I bought this on Etsy from Willow Mist Acres. It arrived really quickly and it seems like a great price for so much loveliness--just $9 for 50 yards. It is composed of yard-long strips of silk, each about 2" wide, that are sewn end-to-end, so it's one long piece, perfect for knitting (with really big needles!); but for crafting purposes you can just cut out the color you want to use. I don't have a plan for using this yet, but I like having it nearby so when inspiration strikes, I will be ready!
That looks like fun. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
ReplyDeleteI would not have guessed what it is. Actually I only heard of it a week ago for the first time by someone that knits with it. It is a lovely mix of colours. I would use some of it on small art quilts, maybe or onpryer flags when you don't need such a polished, ironed look to a piece.
ReplyDeleteI've been really wanting to try knitting with some of this. That does seem like a good price so perhaps I need to jump in and try it. I can't wait to see what you create with it!
ReplyDeleteCheck out Nicole's stash at DarnGoodYarn.com I think it's one of the best places for recycled silk sari yarn as well as recycled bamboo fiber yarn. Both made by women in Nepal. Have fun with it!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip, Suzy! I will check it out!
ReplyDeleteI'm at my local library which is a warming and wifi station for people like me and seeing how beautiful your sari skein is Leslie makes me smile. Agree--cannot wait to see where it shows up in your craftings!I love this ribbon!
ReplyDeleteYou are not helping!!! First you keep posting adorable pictures of your Blythe dolls in their cute outfits. I have been doing everything I can to resist getting one and seeing yours is making it much harder. Then, you go and post about this sari skein must have. I do not need it. But oh how I want it! Now I must get back to work so I can 1. afford some and 2. have room to put it.
